TechNet has named Zoom chief operating officer Aparna Bawa as chair of its executive council.
Why it matters: The trade association's influence runs deep in D.C., lobbying on issues like privacy, attracting global talent and boosting R&D for emerging technology.
- TechNet engages with Congress and administration officials through meetings, testimony at hearings, and fundraising events.
At Zoom, Bawa is responsible for government relations, security, privacy, compliance, trust and safety, and legal functions, according to an announcement shared first with Axios.
- Intuit executive vice president and general counsel Kerry McLean was named vice chair.
- Kleiner Perkins partner Mamoon Hamid will also join the council.
What they're saying: "It is more important than ever to advance innovation policies that position America to lead," Bawa said.
What we're watching: From Meta to Google to Amazon, TechNet represents companies that will be in the crosshairs of regulatory debates on the Hill and in the coming administration.
