What's inside: The bipartisan Future of AI Innovation Act authorizes and formally establishes NIST's U.S. AI Safety Institute to promote the development of voluntary standards with the private sector.
- The bill authorizes the AI Safety Institute to hire full-time staff and develop performance, transparency and evaluation standards of AI.
The bill also:
- Creates testbeds between NIST, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy and the private sector to accelerate AI innovation.
- Sets up challenges for researchers across the country to prioritize finding AI solutions.
- Requires federal agencies to curate datasets for the public to accelerate new advancements in AI applications.
- Forms a coalition with allies to cooperate on global standards and establishes research collaboration between scientific and academic institutions around the world.
