BackOps, which makes automation tools for supply chain operations, raised a $26 million Series A round, CEO Sean McCarthy tells Axios exclusively.

The big picture: Increasing geopolitical risks are driving supply chain leaders to make their operations more flexible, with the help of AI.

Follow the money: The round was led by Theory Ventures, with participation from Gradient, Construct Capital and 10VC.

How it works: San Francisco-based BackOps records how teams resolve shipping problems, using AI to automate repeatable tasks across email, carriers, and internal systems.

"We want to be a central place where processes live in one repository," McCarthy says. "We're not just collecting a process, we're actioning it."

Context: More than half of operations and supply chain leaders have integrated AI into their organization, according to a PwC survey. 

"There's things that weren't even possible six months ago happening today," McCarthy says. "There hasn't been a time prior to today where customers have been able to rely on technology with such high accuracy and output."

What's next: The company is opening a New York office as it expands its global footprint, with customers across the U.S. and in Japan, Germany, India and Hungary, McCarthy says.
