Nexxa.AI, an industrial engineering startup, closed a $9 million seed led by Construct Capital, CEO Philipp Wehn told Axios Pro exclusively.

What's next: The startup is targeting a $20 million to $30 million Series A in the first quarter of next year, Wehn says.

Follow the money: Nexxa's largest shareholder, a16z speedrun, and other existing investors joined.

What they're saying: "In sales, you have the ABC rule, right? 'Always Be Closing.' In my opinion, it is 'Always Be Raising' when it comes to venture capital," Wehn says.

Catch up quick: The Sunnyvale, California-based startup raised a $4.4 million SAFE from a16z speedrun and others in July.

It finished as one of the top startups in a16z speedrun's Badge 5 program and raised the priced seed within about three weeks, the founder says.

Nexxa has raised a total of $14 million since its 2024 launch.

Zoom in: The seed round will allow Nexxa to build out its engineering platform Nitro, ramp sales, and invest in applied AI.

The company has added 10 employees this month. 

"The ability to hire top talent, especially in a place like the Bay Area right now, is very limited, and this funding now gives us the ability to actually talk to top talent," Wehn says.
