Why it matters: The deal would present a buyer with the rare chance at the premier Port of New York and New Jersey cargo gateway.

Zoom in: The estimated $5 billion valuation of Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, N.J., could swell, depending on how high bids go.

JPMorgan will run the process for Macquarie Asset Management, which has owned Maher since 2016.

Maher has a long-term operating lease with the Port of New Jersey and New York that runs through 2063.
