An IRL episode of "Succession" is about to unfold next week when the Murdoch family heads to court in Nevada.

Why it matters: The family feud is filled with all kinds of drama and twists and includes the notion that part of what's fueling the animosity is James Murdoch's inclination to sell Fox News.

Zoom in: Patriarch Rupert Murdoch seeks to amend his family's trust to ensure his son Lachlan Murdoch will control the family's media and business empire.

Lachlan's brother James refuses to go along with the change, as do their sisters Elisabeth and Prudence.

A trial to settle the dispute is set to begin Monday in Nevada, where the trust is registered.

The trust holds significant control of Fox and News Corp.

Between the lines: The Wall Street Journal details some of the juiciest bits of the Murdoch battle, including James' refusal to take a $100 million cut from his proceeds of Fox's sale of its entertainment assets to Disney in 2019.

James hasn't hidden his disdain for Fox News, especially the network's handling of misinformation following the 2020 election. The WSJ says that part of Lachlan and Rupert's worry about James is the possibility of him pushing for the sale of Fox News.

What we're watching: The case is sealed, so don't expect courtroom photos and video.

What's expected is an all-out effort by Rupert Murdoch, 93, to ensure the smooth succession of his empire into the hands of Lachlan, before the patriarch passes on like Logan Roy.
