Reproductive care startup Bird&Be raised a $13 million Series A round, CEO Samantha Diamond tells Axios exclusively.
The big picture: Fertility is one of the most heavily-capitalized segments of women's health, per PwC.
Follow the money: BDC Thrive and BFG Partners led, joined by BAM Ventures, Founder Collective, Rejuvenation Ventures and HSR Ventures.
- The company is profitable, Diamond says, and will use the capital for clinical research and product development.
How it works: The Toronto-based company sells fertility supplements and at-home screening tests for women and men, aiming to reach consumers before they enter a fertility clinic.
- About 75% of its revenue comes from subscriptions. It also sells through Ulta Beauty stores.
Zoom in: The company says it has completed three clinical studies focused on male fertility. It's considering additional work involving DNA fragmentation, epigenetics, vitamin absorption and PCOS.
- "We've definitely seen the shift from reactive to proactive, and I think we're seeing that across all of health care," Diamond says. "We need to start taking preconception vitamins earlier, and we need to involve men."
By the numbers: More than $14 billion was invested in fertility between 2020 and 2025 as investment shifted from PE-led consolidation toward more VC-backed funding.
- The global women's fertility market is estimated to be between $25 billion and $35 billion today, reaching up to $45 billion by 2030.
