The Supreme Court on Monday extended a freeze on new restrictions for mifepristone, allowing the widely used abortion pill to continue being prescribed by mail. 

Hey Jane and other providers navigated the ruling overturning Roe v. Wade and will weather the current storm, says CEO Kiki Freedman.

"It definitely creates confusion and some chaos that we have to help our team and our patients understand."

What we're watching: The extension, which runs through 5pm ET Thursday, provides a reprieve for pharmacies, telehealth companies and clinicians caught up in the latest legal tussle over accessing the pill.

The interview has been edited for clarity and length

Axios Pro: How has Hey Jane responded to the stay and initial ruling?

Freedman: "We will continue providing mifepristone until we absolutely can't, and if that becomes the case, we will still continue providing safe, discrete, affordable abortion care.

We can sort of anchor ourselves to [the idea] that we're not going anywhere."

What is the impact of these short extensions?

"I think we make the greatest efforts possible to take these threats seriously — to the extent that they should be taken seriously — without getting overly distracted by them."

Have you talked to your investors since this legal ruling?  

"They're really supportive of the work that we're doing. I think they're really proud of the ongoing discipline and focus on serving our mission. They've seen us through similar cycles before, and we keep going."

Are there opportunities to acquire other provider groups and scale inorganically?

"Our vision is to become the most accessible platform for sexual and reproductive health care. We have become the leaders in providing telehealth abortion care. I think there is still so much opportunity for us to continue expanding access within that service line. 

We do offer additional services as well, and I could see those becoming more prominent in the future. But for now, we're sort of full steam ahead on expanding access through the core of what we do."
