Develo, a pediatrics-focused EMR company, raised a $14 million Series A round led by Blueprint Equity, CEO Aaron Sin tells Axios Pro exclusively. 

The big picture: Investors have shown a recent willingness to back pediatrics-focused companies.

Follow the money: Villain Capital, Z21 Ventures, Bienville Capital and angel investors participated, bringing total funding to $18 million. 

The Series A gives the company "multiple years" of runway, but Sin declined to share a specific roadmap.

State of play: Pediatric practice management software maker Village raised $9.5 million this week, while pediatric therapist matching platform Coral Care announced it raised $13 million in February. 

How it works: Los Angeles-based Develo offers AI tools, including a scribe and charge capture software, embedded in pediatricians' workflows.

 Develo sells primarily to private practices with a few dozen doctors. 

It competes with startups and established EMRs like Pamlico Capital-backed Office Practicum and Physician's Computer Company.

What's next: Develo plans to create additional AI tools for financial and visit reporting, chart summarization and documentation management later this quarter.

Between the lines: Develo is entering a commoditized sector as established specialty EMRs balance the pressure of adding new tech features with investors' margin pressure.

Develo is aiming to innovate quickly and reduce the number of point-solution vendors customers have to add.

"Legacy players are on their last legs," Sin says.

What we're watching: Whether incumbent EMRs could look to acquire startups with deep specialty expertise.
