TPG has acquired UnitedHealth Group's Optum UK business, Axios Pro has learned.

Why it matters: It's another international exit by UNH.

Zoom in: TPG will operate the business as an independent company, a source close to the deal says.

Follow the money: UNH committed $400 million in net proceeds to the United Health Foundation and entered into an arrangement to buy back at least $2 billion of its common stock, per an earnings release that disclosed the deal, but not the buyer.

Sky News reported in January that the business was likely to be worth between $1.62 billion and $1.89 billion (£1.2b-£1.4b).

Catch up quick: UNH reportedly sold Banmedica, a South American business that operates in Colombia and Chile, to private equity firm Patria for $1 billion last year.

The deal was part of UnitedHealth's three-year-long exit strategy from Latin American markets, which also included Brazil and Peru.

UnitedHealth Group did not respond to a request for comment. TPG declined to comment.
