Valinor, a clinical trial tech startup, raised $13 million in seed funding, CEO Joshua Pacini tells Axios Pro. 

Why it matters: The sector has seen a bevy of deals in recent months, including a Big Pharma-led multibillion dollar buy.

Follow the money: CRV, Harpoon Ventures, Amino Collective and Pelion Venture Partners led the round, which closed last month.

Valinor expects to touch base with larger investors for a potential 2026 raise, Pacini says. 

How it works: San Francisco-based Valinor is building AI and machine learning predictive models that aim to show how clinical trial participants will respond to specific interventions.

Valinor sells primarily to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, with a focus on Phase 2 clinical trials.

It aims to have clinically validated efficacy data by the end of next year.

Zoom out: Phase 2 trials can take up to two years, include several hundred participants and cost millions.

State of play: Paradigm Health, a clinical trial matching startup, raised a $78 million Series B and acquired Flatiron Health's clinical research business earlier this month. 

Thermo Fisher Scientific agreed to acquire clinical trial data company Clario in October for $8.8 billion.

The bottom line: "We can help [pharma] have more effective trials, increase that success rate and also run these trials much cheaper than they would otherwise," Pacini says.
