Offcall, a career platform built by and for physicians, raised a $2 million seed round, CEO Jake Horowitz tells Axios exclusively. 

Why it matters: Rising levels of burnout have physicians and medical students seeking additional resources. 

How it works: San Francisco-based Offcall provides doctors with transparent compensation data, practical financial and career tools and resources.

It is currently free and after a questionnaire, physicians receive personalized insights and a data dashboard.

"Hospitals have thin margins and losing a physician due to burnout is very expensive," says co-founder Graham Walker.

By the numbers: Around 50% of medical students are burnt out and considering a career change.

Physicians don't like their compensation, as 61% of doctors  in one survey said they felt U.S. physicians are underpaid.

Almost 70% of physicians are looking for higher pay and more transparency when it comes to compensation.

Private practices are dwindling, as nearly 80% of physicians now work for hospitals or other corporate entities.

What's next: Offcall plans to offer additional career-navigation tools to help physicians compare, contrast and understand options with employment and financially. 

Down the line, the company could have a few additional revenue streams.

"One is a subscription, which would give physicians access to a unique suite of career tools, legal, accounting services, job boards, as there's a whole host of things that physicians have told us that they might be interested in paying for," says Horowitz.

"On the enterprise side, we could offer workplace management, HR and other recruiting tools for the employer."

Zoom in: The round featured participation from Bloomberg Beta and Roar Ventures. 

It also had investments from 26 leading physicians across the U.S. including Shiv Rao, CEO of Abridge and Joseph Habboushe, CEO of MDCalc.

What they're saying: "Physicians would never make clinical decisions without knowing patients' vital signs, but when it comes to our own finances and choosing where to work, we lack financial vital signs and are left flying blind," says Walker.
