Clinical compliance software startup Guardoc Health raised a $3 million seed round, CEO Hadassah Backman tells Axios exclusively. 

Why it matters: The current compliance process is reactive and manual, placing undue pressure on an already overburdened nursing workforce.

How it works: Guardoc's software integrates with electronic healthcare records to automate compliance practices and decrease error prone manual labor

Founded in 2023, the Tel Aviv-based SaaS company is in beta testing across six US-based healthcare organizations, with a initial focus on long-term health facilities.

By the numbers: So far in beta the product has shown strong results, including a 50% reduction in average charting errors per nurse, and an 86% decrease in errors affecting patient outcomes.

Two clinics experienced a 100% citation-free state survey, a dramatic improvement from previous surveys with over 23 documentation-related errors.

What's next: The new capital will allow for expansion of its applications and a moved beyond long-term facilities.

"The goal is to be in 100 facilities by the end of 2025, start of 2206."

"This round gives us roughly 24 months of runway and we are not breaking even, but are chipping away at that milestone," says Backman.

The bottom line: The current compliance system is outdated and contributes to a staggering $40 billion in payment losses for providers due to non-compliance but also compromises patient care. 

Case in point: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the largest payer in the U.S. healthcare system, insures 116 million chronically ill American adults.

These patients generate an overwhelming 4.7 billion encounters annually that must be audited for compliance.
