Telehealth provider Hims & Hers will pay $31 million to buy a compounding pharmacy that will make weight loss drugs (i.e., Ozempic knockoffs).

Why it matters: Hims, which was once best known for ED drugs, is doubling down on the booming weight management space.

Spending on GLP-1s, which stimulate insulin and slow digestion, could reach $18.2 billion by 2027. There have also been supply shortages.

Zoom in: Hims already has a weight loss strategy, focused on personalization, which this purchase is intended to expand.

For example, it recently launched access to personalized dosages for compounded semaglutide.

The company says its customers report average weight loss of 10.2 pounds while on compounded GLP-1 injections and 6.3 pounds while on non-GLP-1 compounded oral medication kits in their first month.

The bottom line: Medicine personalization is a net positive because not all drugs are right for everyone.
