The main health committees in the House are both starting marathon reconciliation markups Tuesday afternoon, with major health implications.
- It's a split-screen moment, and here are some logistics you need to know:
Energy and Commerce
- Starts at 2pm ET; livestream here.
- Committee aides have said the markup could last more than 27 hours, because lawmakers want to beat the 27-hour record that Energy and Commerce set during a 2017 ACA repeal-replace markup.
- Staffers said the energy and tech portions of the package will be marked up first, and the health care portions are likely to come last.
- That means the big health policy moments will very likely play out in the wee hours and could consume a big part of Wednesday. If all goes as planned, the bill will probably be advanced that afternoon or evening.
- Pro tip: The markup is expected to be continuous, with no breaks. Caffeine is obligatory, Celsius is also encouraged.
Ways and Means
- Starts at 2:30pm ET; livestream here.
- Health care provisions concerning health savings accounts, rural hospitals and limiting Medicare coverage for undocumented people are part of the massive tax package.
- Because the health care provisions are scattered throughout the bill, they'll come up at various points during the proceedings.
- The Ways and Means markup could also last more than 24 hours, per GOP staff.
