The House Energy and Commerce Committee is pushing the markup of its portion of the GOP reconciliation package back a week, to the week of May 12, per House Republican aides.
Why it matters: It could give lawmakers more time to make decisions on how to overhaul the program and sort through options that would help pay for the tax cut package.
State of play: In a note that went out to staff for E&C members, which was reviewed by Axios, the committee said Chair Brett Guthrie "had a very productive conversation with President Trump at the White House today."
- But the note said that "in order to follow up on a few requests, we are not marking up next week."
- The note also said to hold the week of May 12 open for a makeup date and added that there will be member meetings next week.
- There will also be informal committee meetings beginning before votes on Tuesday during the week of the markup.
The committee Republicans didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
