Wealthfront's IPO might look like a bust, given that shares didn't pop.

But there's a silver lining: The proof of buyside demand for a slower-growth tech company that's not rocketing toward $1 billion in ARR.

Zoom in: Wealthfront has purposely stayed in its robo-advising lane, despite temptations to shift during meme and crypto stock manias.

It offers individual stock investing accounts, but doesn't offer active trading, and has pitched itself to customers as a less volatile way to invest.

"Robinhood's prospectus talks a lot about the importance of growth moments," Wealthfront CEO David Fortunato tells Axios. "We've tried to take a different approach, which is growing consistently and steadily and compounding over time."

Follow the money: Wealthfront reports around 22% top-line growth for the first half of 2025, compared to the year-earlier period, while net income fell by 44%.

That drop in net income was the result of the company becoming consistently profitable and no longer booking a tax benefit.

What we're watching: The company has expanded into mortgages, and Fortunato says the company has "gotten closer in equalizing the assets in cash and investment."

Some 76% of its revenue last year came from its cash management services, which tend to do better in higher-rate environments.

The company will look to further diversify its offering and insulate itself from market volatility.
