What's the latest on agentic commerce, and how is Worldpay trying to solve for this new modality?

"At its core, agentic commerce is about getting the payment done without a human involved, but with human consent, and keeping it on the same Visa‑Mastercard rails merchants already use. 

I want to help merchants expose their inventory to agents while requiring as few investment needs as possible."

Merchants have spent years blocking bots. How do they tell a trusted agent from a fraudster?

"We're working with partners like Trulioo so merchants can work with just one tool instead of solving this five different times. 

The goal is to give each agent a signature that shows exactly what it has been entitled to purchase and that it's been given consumer consent, so fraud tools can distinguish a fraudster bot from a trusted agent."

In a world where robots are purchasing on behalf of consumers, how does liability shift if something goes wrong?

"Today, 100% of card‑not‑present liability sits with the merchant unless they can prove the consumer made the purchase. 

First‑party fraud will get interesting. If an agent books the wrong red‑eye flight, who's liable: the airline, the merchant, the consumer, or the agent that interpreted the instructions?

We're going to be watching the space really carefully, and the ecosystem might need a new liability framework."

What's Worldpay doing with stablecoins today?

"We're participating in stablecoins in two areas: when we settle with merchants, we can settle in stablecoins, and we've enabled it as a payout rail, so a platform can push stablecoin to sellers, creators or SMBs. 

The use case that's most attractive is cross‑border FX. Imagine a clothing seller in Vietnam — stablecoins let them skip the exotic currency transaction."

How do you solve for fraud in a world of instant, irreversible stablecoin settlement?

"What you're talking about is revocability, and it isn't ubiquitous. It doesn't exist on RTP, and it doesn't exist in most bank payments outside the U.S. The risk you're describing is everywhere anyway."

Isn't there the possibility of stablecoin payments cannibalizing consumer card revenue?

"I don't see a use case where consumers need to shop with a stablecoin instead of a credit card, debit card, or ACH. 

Our focus is on business payment flows and payouts to vendors and suppliers."

Speaking of open banking, how do you see account‑to‑account payment demand for merchants in the U.S.?

"If you look at Brazil's Pix or India's UPI, they're already 60% to 70% of payments, while the U.S. is in the low single digits. 

Consumer surcharges and convenience fees could change that. When consumers see a 3% surcharge for using a credit card, they might start looking for another way to pay. 

There's a lot of reason to be bullish on open banking scaling here, especially in gaming, which some card issuers avoid, and bill pay, where consumers historically are used to writing checks."
