Decimal AI, which serves technical customer support teams, raised a $4 million seed, CEO Sanjeet Hajarnis tells Axios exclusively.

Follow the money: The seed round was led by Khosla Ventures and Kearny Jackson, with participation from Atlassian Ventures and Weekend Fund.

Hajarnis says that the funding will be used to work more closely with existing customers, so they won't have to raise again immediately.

How it works: Decimal connects to a company's codebase, customer history and support tools to investigate technical issues and recommend a response.

"Companies like Zendesk and Salesforce predominantly focus on helping the support team, and when they need additional help, they go to engineering," Hajarnis says. "We are the connective tissue between the two."

State of play: Salesforce's $3.6 billion acquisition of AI customer service platform Fin this month highlights broader investment in AI customer service. 

What's next: Decimal plans to expand beyond support investigations toward a broader engineering platform that gives customer-facing teams more technical capabilities.
