Bespoke Labs, an AI agent training platform, raised $40 million across seed and Series A funding, CEO Mahesh Sathiamoorthy tells Axios exclusively.

The big picture: AI agents have become deeply embedded in business workflows across industries.

Follow the money: The Series A was led by Wing VC, with participation from Mayfield and The House Fund and the seed round was led by 8VC.

Sathiamoorthy says the funding gives Bespoke almost two years of runway to support research needed to build more realistic training environments.

How it works: Bespoke builds simulated workspaces for AI agents in any industry. The agents practice tasks involving codebases, logs, tickets, email, Slack and other workplace tools. That practice can train models before deploying they are deployed in corporate workflows.

"We build these environments, or what we call worlds, that mimic the complexities of the real world," Sathiamoorthy says.

Zoom in: The Mountain View, Calif.-based company works with both frontier AI labs and enterprises, with current demand leaning more toward frontier and "neo" labs.

Yes, but: More companies are adopting smaller agents to manage cost and control while balancing safety and reliability.

More than 80% of Fortune 500 companies use simple tools to build AI agents for everyday workplace tasks, per Microsoft.

What they're saying: Chief science officer Alex Dimakis says the market could move away from reliance on single general-purpose models and toward a more fragmented ecosystem of specialized models.

What's next: Sathiamoorthy said a long-term goal is creating environments complex enough to help agents operate reliably on workflows that can span weeks or months.
