Cloudsmith, a platform that protects software components, raised a $72 million Series C, CEO Glenn Weinstein tells Axios exclusively.

The big picture: AI is accelerating the pace and scale of software development, making it harder for companies to keep code secure and under control.

How it works: The Belfast-based company manages "artifacts" — the code libraries, containers and other components that software is built from — ensuring they remain secure and readily available.

Follow the money: The round was led by TCV and Insight Partners participated. TCV also led Cloudsmith's $23 million Series B in March 2025.

Zoom in: Weinstein says its platform is cloud-native, which helps differentiate Cloudsmith from legacy competitors like JFrog and Sonatype.

The company is also taking a more partner-driven approach, arguing that securing the software supply chain isn't something a single vendor can do alone.

By the numbers: A Google report found 90% of software developers use AI but 30% have little or no trust in the code generated by AI.

"AI agents tend to introduce a wider range of code dependencies,"  Weinstein says. "This is putting more pressure on existing artifact management systems, which is exposing gaps in scalability, reliability, and compliance."

What's next: Weinstein says Cloudsmith's long-term goal is to become a central hub for how software is distributed and consumed.
