Venture investment in AI agents is reaching new levels.

Why it matters: Agentic AI — especially in the enterprise — seems to be one of the first big winners in the new AI era when it comes to venture dollars.

The fine print: These are total dollars and deals taken in by startups that are described as being in the agentic AI space specifically — not the large generative AI companies like OpenAI or Anthropic.

By the numbers: A handful of massive nine-figure raises by startups firmly in the agentic AI space have come together already this year.

Microservices orchestration startup Temporal, whose platform can be used to develop agentic AI, raised a $146 million Series C led by Tiger Global in March.

San Francisco-based Decagon, a customer experience AI agent startup, raised a $131 million Series C co-led by Accel and Andreessen Horowitz in June.

Between the lines: Just as venture dollars have increased, so has deal flow. So far this year, 260 funding deals have been consummated, compared to 267 in all of 2024.

The bottom line: Despite the excitement around agentic AI, the growing number of deals should be a reminder to investors that few companies will be "winners" in any specific category of agentic AI — so invest wisely.
