With freshly confirmed leadership, Interior and EPA are beginning to implement President Trump's agenda.
Why it matters: Agencies are beginning a slew of regulatory actions to roll back Biden policies and bolster domestic fossil fuels.
- They've also started unveiling more nominees.
Driving the news: Interior Secretary Doug Burgum issued an order Monday to implement Trump's "Unleashing American Energy" EO.
- It directs assistant secretaries to submit plans within 15 days and take action "terminating any contract or agreement on behalf of entities or programs abolished in the revoked EO."
- Among other things, it proposes to rescind or revise BLM's conservation rule, endangered species listings and the Biden five-year offshore oil and gas leasing plan.
- It also proposes actions to expedite drilling permits and possibly reinstate revoked leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
At EPA, Administrator Lee Zeldin on Tuesday issued a broad "Powering the Great American Comeback" initiative.
- It includes general references to expediting environmental permits and rolling back auto emissions standards. Climate change isn't mentioned.
- And notably, Zeldin said EPA's work would include making the U.S. the "AI capital of the world."
