The House last night narrowly passed its spending bill for Interior and EPA, a consolation prize for appropriators as lawmakers head into recess.
Why it matters: The vote capped off a tumultuous few weeks on the House floor that saw one bill go down in flames and GOP leadership pull the energy and water spending legislation from consideration before it met a similar fate.
Driving the news: The Interior-environment bill passed 210-205, with five Republicans voting against it.
- One Democrat, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, voted "yes."
- The base bill includes a 20 percent cut for EPA, as well as policy riders that would block power plant regulations and Endangered Species Act designations.
- Lawmakers rejected a number of additional policy riders from conservatives, including a proposal from Rep. Scott Perry to eliminate funding for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
What's next: The House will take its final votes this morning before heading off to August recess.
- All signs point to a continuing resolution at the end of September.
