Rivian spin-out Also unveiled its first products Wednesday, including an e-bike, compact electric fleet vehicles and a connected helmet. 

Why it matters: The venture-backed company is making a bet that design, software and vertical integration can generate micromobility success.

Follow the money: Also launched earlier this year with $105 million from Eclipse, a VC firm focused on industrial tech.

Also raised another $200 million from GreenOak Capital, valuing the company at a $1 billion post-money valuation.

Zoom in: Execs at Also showed Axios Pro the e-bike, called the TM-B, at its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, last week, followed by a test ride around the streets. 

Many of the aspects of Also's e-bike have been designed to deliver a better experience to the user, like a swappable seat post (they call it a top frame), a Nest-like display, and software-defined pedaling.

"There hasn't been a ground-up rethink of what the [e-bike] experience could be," Also President Chris Yu told Axios Pro.

The ride around the streets was a smooth and dynamic experience, with the bike automatically adjusting to the pedal input and offering fun perks like software-enabled "hill flattening" and double-click turn signals.

The intrigue: Also's bet is that bringing a lot of the design and tech under one roof can deliver a much better e-bike user experience on the level of a car.

Beyond the e-bike, Also intends to sell its 4-wheel micro fleet vehicles to delivery companies, and it announced a deal on them with Amazon today.

What they're saying: Micromobility has a huge market, growing double the rate of automotive, "but lacking in technology, lacking in brand, lacking in user experience and just lacking in imagination," Eclipse partner Jiten Behl says.

Behl was previously chief strategy officer and chief growth officer at Rivian.

Reality check: Micromobility, which includes EVs smaller than a car, has historically been a challenging space for investors.

What's next: Also started taking preorders for the launch edition of the TM-B, at $4,500, today, with the first shipments in spring of 2026.
