Nexterity expects to begin raising in June as much as $10 million in seed funding to develop robotic industrial tools, CEO Lindsey Elliott tells Axios.

Why it matters: The startup says its debut bot, Geometra, can speed up industrial projects by automating the task of bolting and unbolting. 

How it works: "It can work in any circular pattern of bolts, but it can be adapted to any repeatable pattern of fasteners," Elliott tells Axios. 

Driving the news: Nexterity, which is focusing on energy, water and other infrastructure, has a demonstration of Geometra lined up this week at ConocoPhillips.

Catch up quick: The Nutley, New Jersey-based company, which also has an office in Boston, has raised $550,000 from RoadRunner Venture Studio and $100,000 in non-dilutive funding from MassRobotics.

What's next: Nexterity is also testing its fast-bolting bot in defense roles. 

It's finalizing a $250,000 Army contract to bolt and unbolt Humvees, and an anticipated $400,000 to $850,000 Air Force contract to test the system on runway "arresting kits" that slow or stop landing aircraft. 

💭 Our thought bubble: Robotics is arguably the hot sector in climate-tech as investors look for automation tech that can harness AI's software efficiency — and profits — to achieve decarbonization in the iron-and-steel real world.

Recent deals include truck-loading robot developer Slip Robotics, trash-sorting automation startup Amp Robotics, wireless robot charging developer Capow, construction robot startup Cosmic Robotics, and recycling robots developer Glacier Robotics.
