Sorcero, an agentic AI platform for the pharmaceutical industry, raised a $42.5 million Series B, CEO Dipanwita Das tells Axios Pro.

Why it matters: A growing group of startups is harnessing AI to help drug companies develop and sell new medicines.

Follow the money: NewSpring Capital led the round, joined by Leawood Venture Capital and Blu Ventures.

Sorcero has now raised $59 million to date.

How it works: Sorcero's platform uses agentic AI to make it easier for pharmaceutical companies to market new medications.

It generates the efficacy, safety evidence and personalized, patient-focused content that health care professionals and patients rely on.

By the numbers: Das says the platform can boost productivity in generating scientific evidence and medical insights by up to 92%.

Sorcero counts one-third of the top 30 global pharma firms as customers.

What they're saying: "It's one thing to get a drug approved and get it in market," Das says. "It's another thing to be able to ensure that those medicines are actually making it to the right doctors and prescribing to the right patients at the right time."

"We identified Sorcero very early on as doing something very interesting and exciting," says Hart Callahan, general partner at NewSpring.

Catch up quick: Washington, D.C.-based Sorcero was founded in 2018 by Das, chief operating officer Richard Graves and chief scientific officer Walter Bender.

Sorcero, which is seeing double-digit revenue, acquired med-tech software company Axiom Health in July for an undisclosed amount.

Friction point: Sorcero faces competition from pharma companies building their own AI tools, as well as longstanding agencies that provide clinical reports to medical affairs teams.

State of play: Sorcero is the latest life sciences AI company to raise funding.

Weave Bio, a software platform that automates regulatory paperwork for drug development, raised a $20 million Series A in October.

So did Peer AI, a life sciences software firm founded in 2023 that accelerates FDA drug approval documentation, which raised $12.1 million.

And Convoke, a software platform producing regulatory documents, raised an $8.6 million seed in August.

What's next: Sorcero may never fundraise again, Das says, noting that the company is already generating revenue and has a long runway.

She is open to several exit possibilities, including an acquisition or remaining independent until the company is ripe for an IPO.
