1 big thing: 🎇 Fourth of July fun
It's a parade and fireworks-filled July Fourth weekend, along with bar specials galore.
State of play: Neighborhood celebrations tomorrow include the Palisades Parade (see our past coverage), Capitol Hill Parade and Takoma Park Parade.
- A National Independence Day Parade on Constitution Avenue will start at 11:45am for a day of family-friendly festivities on the National Mall.
- Fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9:09pm.
🧨 Many bars have Independence Day specials, including The Sovereign in Georgetown and Vermilion in Alexandria.
- ChurchKey on 14th Street has a festival menu lineup all weekend long, including the CK Halfsmoke and $5 Bluejacket draft pours.
- The Roost is bringing a BBQ bash to Capitol Hill on July 4, beginning at 11am until they sell out, with platters of pulled smoked chicken, chopped pork, ribs and more.
- Paraíso nearby has a $45 bottomless brunch with $20 bottomless mimosas starting tomorrow, with tapas and frozen margs at night.
- With Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour coming to D.C., cocktail bar Show of Hands in Hill East has a Bey-inspired DJ celebration tomorrow 3-8pm.
- Whitlow's on U Street opens its bar at noon tomorrow, with a DJ dance party into the night.
The Pendry's Moonraker rooftop at the Wharf offers a high-end experience, with $200 tickets getting you an evening fireworks viewing and food and drink (small plates like Ahi Tuna Tartare and mains like Wagyu Sliders and American Kobe Hot Dogs).
- The La Vie Penthouse is hosting a night of music and drinks called "Diamonds in the Sky," with $28 standing room tix still available.
More weekend fun:
🧱 A parkour experience is landing at the National Building Museum, with an immersive exhibit running through July 20.
🎊 The Smithsonian's Folklife Festival is back on the Mall through July 7. The full schedule of events includes film screenings, skateboarding lessons, language lessons and family-friendly performances.
⚽️ Audi Field is hosting "Marvel Night," with fans encouraged to attend Saturday's D.C. United vs. Atlanta United match at 7:30pm dressed in Marvel costumes.

What we're watching: A new, star-studded action film, a documentary on a groundbreaking magazine and the sequel to 2020's "The Old Guard."
"Heads of State" available now on Prime Video
- State of play: John Cena and Idris Elba play the leaders of the U.S. and U.K., respectively, in this buddy action comedy also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Jack Quaid.
"Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print" available now on Max
- Zoom in: This documentary explores the origin of the trailblazing "Ms." magazine and three of its most iconic cover stories.
"The Old Guard 2" available now on Netflix
- The intrigue: Academy award nominees Uma Thurman and Chiwetel Ejiofor star alongside Charlize Theron ("Andy") as her team of immortal warriors faces a new threat.
- Catch up quick: At the end of "The Old Guard," Andy's mortality mysteriously leaves her, Nile (played KiKi Layne) becomes immortal and joins the group, and Booker (played by Matthias Schoenaerts) is punished for his sins and exiled.
