Tony Fratto — formerly a deputy White House press secretary to President George W. Bush and co-founder of Hamilton Place Strategies (now Penta Group) — will join Goldman Sachs as a partner and global head of corporate communications, reporting to chief of staff John Rogers.
Why it matters: According to a memo obtained by The New York Times, Fratto was brought on “to protect and enhance Goldman Sachs’ reputation."
What we're watching: Strategic communications and brand reputation appear to be a priority for the financial institution, especially as the U.S. economy teeters toward a potential recession.
- Fratto is the latest high-profile comms hire at the company, following Fiona Carter, Goldman's first chief marketing officer and Andrea Williams, head of media relations — both of whom were hired in the last two years — plus the recently announced promotion of Carey Halio as global head of investor relations and chief strategy officer.
