1 big thing: 🍽️ Charlotte's 30 best restaurants
Charlotte restaurants have never had more national attention. But they’re also competing harder than ever for your dinner reservation.
Why it matters: In a dining landscape increasingly shaped by national restaurant groups and outside investment, every restaurant reservation has a ripple effect. Our annual list spotlights the very best locally owned spots.
Our methodology: We dined at every spot on this list multiple times, and we always pay our way. Restaurants must be open for at least a year to be considered.
- We judge them on food, service and atmosphere, with food carrying the most weight.
Here are our top five picks for Charlotte's best restaurants, ranked:
No. 1: Rada: This 46-seat Myers Park restaurant quietly became one of the country's hottest dining destinations, earning praise from both The New York Times and Michelin in its first year.
No. 2: Albertine: This Mediterranean-inspired fine-dining restaurant is from Joe and Katy Kindred, the husband-and-wife team behind local favorites Kindred, Hello, Sailor and Milkbread.
No. 3: Counter-: Charlotte's first Michelin-starred restaurant is unlike anywhere else in the city, blending storytelling, sustainability and one of the South's most inventive tasting menus.
No. 4: L'Ostrica: Cat Carter and chef Eric Ferguson have built one of Charlotte's most thoughtful tasting-menu restaurants.
No. 5: Yunta: This Peruvian-Japanese restaurant still feels like the coolest reservation in town, years after opening.
