Charlotte Craft Beer Week will return for its 10th edition after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Details: Celebrated during North Carolina Beer Month, CCBW will run from Oct. 21-30 and include free events and activities, a job fair and new beer releases to celebrate the breweries in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.Â
- Breweries, cideries, bottle shops, taprooms, craft beer restaurants and beer clubs are invited to participate.
Why it matters: CCBW has the potential to bring outside revenue into the city.
- The annual economic impact of North Carolina craft beer is nearly $3 billion, according to Gov. Roy Cooper's office.
- “Ultimately, the goal is to make Charlotte a destination for craft beer,” Divine Barrel Brewing's Gavin Toth said. “Because it is. I just don’t think the general public knows that.”

We updated our guide to Charlotte's 40-plus breweries.
Why it matters: As Toth from Divine Barrel alluded to, Charlotte is becoming a brewery capital. We added nine to the lineup in the last year alone.
Fun fact: When this list was created in 2015, it totaled 13.

3. Update: Tepper vs. Rock Hill

Creditor payouts mark the latest chapter in the David Tepper-Rock Hill debacle, Axios' Ashley Mahoney writes.
Driving the news: GT Real Estate Holdings, LLC, the real estate holdings arm Tepper created to build a headquarters in Rock Hill, filed a plan of reorganization in Delaware bankruptcy court yesterday. The plan includes setting aside $82 million to pay off creditors — including the City of Rock Hill, York County and contractors.
- The money will come from DT Sports Holdings, LLC, another Tepper-owned company.
- The plan is subject to court approval. The court is expected to hold a hearing in October, GTRE said in a statement.
Why it matters: The promised $800 million Rock Hill headquarters and practice facility project is dead, with buildings sitting half-constructed. But the fallout in the York County community continues.

British electric vehicle maker Arrival laid off 35 employees in Charlotte, Axios' Katie Peralta Soloff writes.
What’s happening: In an earnings call Thursday morning, Arrival executives confirmed the company is delaying the start of EV van production at its facility in Charlotte to 2023.
- The company now employs about 60 in the Charlotte region, down from 95.
What they’re saying: “We also want to reiterate that the U.S. and Charlotte remain a key market to us and we want to reaffirm our commitment to launching and producing our vehicles there,” spokesperson Rana Khatun told Axios.
Why it matters: Arrival’s 2021 announcement to establish a major presence in Charlotte came as the city and businesses work to reduce their carbon footprints.
- Its decision to scale back globally reflects ongoing macroeconomic challenges facing all businesses.

This two-bed, two-bath in Oakhurst is listed for $425,000.
Why we love it: The bathroom and kitchen have been renovated with a modern design that still feels timeless in the ranch-style home, Axios' Alexis Clinton writes.
- At 1,205 square feet, the home has hardwood floors, an open kitchen layout, quartz countertops, fenced-in backyard and a firepit.
More hot homes: 6 houses for sale in Charlotte ranging from $385K to $1.6M
7. ⚠️ More express toll lanes

Additional toll lanes on I-77 are a possibility, Axios' Alex Sands writes.
- These tolls would be between Brookshire Freeway and the South Carolina line, according to a proposal shared with the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO).
Details: This new proposal by Cintra (the same developer behind the controversial toll lanes to Mooresville), would add two express lanes each way on the southern portion of the interstate.
- Plans include upgrades to the six existing “general purpose lanes” — or, the “free” lanes.
What’s next: If the CRTPO board supports the project, NCDOT will evaluate it.
- Cintra estimates it could start design and construction by mid-2024 and open by July 2029.
