• The 18,000-square-foot food hall at One Independence Center will open this November.

The newly announced tenants include:

• Kabab2Go, a locally owned Mediterranean deli.
• Seoul Good, Korean street food from the owners of Fujiyama.
• The owners of Sosu Noodle Bar, a Japanese restaurant, will open a new spot at the market focusing on Laotian food, particularly sticky rice.
• Aster Cocktail Room will offer classic cocktails with a modern twist on the second floor above the market's main dining area.
• Lanai Terrace Bar will serve drinks inspired by the coast and will have a covered patio overlooking Tryon Street.

Elon University is opening a part-time law school in South End for working professionals to earn their degrees at night.

• The first cohort of 35 students will start in fall 2024, Axios' Alexandria Sands writes.

Why it matters: Charlotte is the largest U.S. city without a law school or a four-year medical school. But soon it will have both, with Elon's incoming presence and the construction of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in midtown.

Details: The Elon University School of Law in downtown Greensboro, which opened in 2006, is a two-and-a-half-year program with around 430 students.

• The Charlotte program will use the same teaching model as Greensboro, but it will take four years. That way, students have the flexibility to work during the day, take care of their families or tend to other obligations.

For the first time ever, UNC Charlotte broke into the U.S. News & World Report Best College's list of top 100 public universities in the nation.

• The 2024 ranking was released Monday with Charlotte as No. 96, Alex writes.

Zoom in: UNC Charlotte moved up 16 spots to No. 164 for value and affordability. The university also ranked No. 72 for social mobility.

• The undergraduate engineering program came in No. 120, and the nursing program was in slot 112.
• It's also the 123rd-best college for veterans, a jump of 22 spots from last year.

What they're saying: In a release, the university attributed its rise in rankings to strides made in several of U.S. News's key metrics.

• They include six-year graduation rates, first-year retention, graduate debt and graduation rates for first-generation and Pell-eligible students.

Hundreds of airport workers protested yesterday near Charlotte Douglas International Airport for better working conditions, higher wages, paid time off and other benefits.

• Many say they are not provided with drinking water and air conditioning in their break rooms, as WFAE reported.
• These workers provide a range of services for the airlines, including cabin cleaners, baggage handlers and wheelchair attendants.

Many of the workers are with Jetstream Ground Services, a subcontractor hired by American Airlines, per WFAE. The workers have asked Charlotte City Council for help.

Yes, but: The city has been wary of getting involved in labor disputes between private contractors at the airport, as the station noted.

What they're saying: "Without us, planes wouldn't be able to take off, but I'm barely surviving with what I earn," Shonda Barber, a JetStream trash truck driver who services American Airlines, said in a statement.

Of note: Five people were arrested for traffic violations during the protest, WSOC reported.
