Arizona diners rank near the middle of the nation for tipping, according to new Toast data shared first with Axios.
Why it matters: Despite the so-called "tip fatigue" — which is fueling a broader rethink of tipping culture — diners' average tips have barely budged over the past two years.
- Some U.S. restaurants are now ditching gratuities altogether in favor of higher menu prices and wages, the BBC reports.
By the numbers: Arizona diners tipped 19% on average in Q2 this year, down slightly from 19.2% in Q1.
- Tips averaged 19.6% at full-service restaurants and 15.5% at quick-service restaurants.
Zoom out: Delaware, West Virginia and New Hampshire are home to America's top tippers, with diners leaving around 21% on average.
- California, Washington, D.C., and Washington state place last for overall tipping, with an average of under 18%.
The fine print: The report is based on data from restaurants using the Toast platform.
- Cash tips aren't included.
The bottom line: Not all diners tip the same — and more restaurants may take it off the table entirely.
