San Diego's Halloween costume picks get weird

Zoom in: The top five trending costumes are:

👹 Elmo (from "Sesame Street")
👑 Cleopatra
🕷️ Ghost Spider (from the Marvel universe)
👰‍♀️ Corpse Bride
🥽 Cyclops (from "X-Men")

Zoom out: Nationally, the trending costumes make a little more sense:

👱🏻‍♀️ Dolly Parton
🤠 Ella Langley
🥟 Dumpling
💃 Shakira
🧢 Ash Ketchum (from Pokémon)

And kids costumes trending nationally are:

🦄 Buddy the Unicorn
🟣 NeeDoh
🦓 Nikki (from "Obsession")
⚔️ Agamemnon (from "The Odyssey")
🎀 Lily Love Braids (from "Poppy Playtime")

💭 My thought bubble: I won't tell you how many of these I had to Google. I feel old.

• Is Dumpling a cultural reference or are people just dressing as dumplings?
• This year my son is all in on "The Odyssey" (even though he hasn't seen it), so we're dressing up as Greek gods.
