Golden retrievers are San Diego's top dog

State of play: The blonde, friendly, Travis Kelce-like pups are everywhere at dog beaches, dog parks and Balboa Park.

• That makes us something of an anomaly among the other cities featured, where goldendoodles reign supreme.

Yes, but: The dog that's seeing the biggest year-over-year spike in San Diego ownership is the Mexican hairless dog (Xolo).

• In Chula Vista, it's the Jack Russel terrier.

💭 Claire's thought bubble: Apparently I need to take my dog to Bakersfield, where Shiba Inus are trending.

• Based on the number of Shibas I see in Balboa Park, I would have thought they're trendy here, too.
• But maybe we're past that phase and onto Xolos.

This San Diego good boy, Otis, came from the SoCal Golden Retriever Rescue. Do you also have a golden retriever? Send us a pic!
