Escape the heat on Solana Beach's breezy bike trail

• And if you want more of a challenge, it's easy to extend the distance.

Zoom in: The trail is a fully protected bike path tucked between Highway 101 and the Coaster train tracks.

• It runs from Ocean Street in the north to Via de la Valle in the south.

The details: The trail is 3 miles out and back, flat and great for bikes and strollers.

• If you want more distance, you'll have to leave the protected bike path for a bit, but you can bike up and down the coast.
• You'll hug the ocean the entire time, so it's one of the coolest places to get some exercise in the heat.
