NASCAR returns to Coronado for another Navy base race

NASCAR is coming back to Coronado next summer.

The big picture: This summer was the first time NASCAR had a race series at an active military base, and it worked out so well they want to do it again.

"What we experienced this year – the incredible racing, the energy from our fans and the partnership with the U.S. Navy and the San Diego community – showed just how special this event can be," said NASCAR San Diego president Amy Lupo in a statement.

Zoom in: The Cup and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series will be held July 30–Aug. 1 at Naval Air Station North Island.

It is a 16-turn course, 3.4 miles long.

What's next: After next summer, NASCAR plans to move on from Coronado and hold street races at different military bases.
