Why San Diego has so many mosquitoes this summer

Friction point: San Diego County has invasive Aedes mosquitoes, which are way more annoying than the pests that only come out at night.

• These nasty biters are active during the day, focus in on your legs and ankles, and are more aggressive (meaning biting multiple times in a row), according to the county.
• They also can carry viruses like Zika, dengue, yellow fever and heartworm for dogs.

Threat level: There's been more mosquito activity in several parts of the county, which means the county's Vector Control crews are boosting treatments, county spokesperson Donna Durckel told Fox 5.

• The county uses helicopters to drop mosquito larvicide into standing water.
