San Diego's first women's sports bar opens Thursday after years operating as a pop-up.
Why it matters: One of Us, in North Park, finally gives locals a permanent place where women's games are the priority, not an afterthought.
The biggest thing is being able to go to a bar to watch women's sports on TV with the sound on(!) and it won't be a fight with the bartenders, Ash Easterly told Axios.
- Easterly is part of the San Diego Wave supporters group, the Sirens, and has been going to One of Us watch parties since they launched in 2024.
- "Having a dedicated space to come together with other people who have similar interests, who are as psyched about women's sports as I am ... that's something you can't put a price tag on," Easterly said.
The vibe: The spacious bar and restaurant on University Avenue is big enough for crowds of Wave fans. You can also count on seeing the WNBA, softball, lacrosse, soccer, football and rugby on about a dozen large TVs.
- Open garage door windows and high ceilings make the space feel like an elevated industrial brewery. Women's sports icons and memorabilia line the walls.
- The menu: coal-fired pizza, tater tots, wings and salads. There's also cocktails, local beers, plus a few N/A drinks.
- Plus, an arcade area.

Catch up quick: One of Us grew out of local watch parties and fundraisers hosted at neighborhood bars.
- Hundreds of people showed up to those events, proving there was an appetite for a permanent space, co-owner Kalani Millsaps told Axios.
The intrigue: The bar's wolf mascot and logo was inspired by the idea that women's sports fans have often felt like lone wolves, but here "you become one of us, you become part of the wolf pack," Millsaps said.
The big picture: Women's sports bars are booming across the U.S. as more fans are watching women's teams than ever before.
- The demand is being fueled by new and growing professional leagues.
What's next: One of Us is hosting a grand opening party Thursday and ribbon-cutting with athletes from the Wave and USA Rugby Eagles.
- Doors open to the public at 1:30pm, and women's basketball and softball games start at 4.
