Summer is in full swing and it's definitely warm enough to go to the pool.
The big picture: If you're looking for swim lessons for your kids or even yourself, there are lots of options at different price points.
🛟 The city's Learn to Swim Program — San Diego offers basic lessons for free at some community pools, group lessons for $23, or private lessons for $50. You have to sign up through the city's clunky SDRecConnect website and spots can fill up fast.
🏊♀️ YMCA of San Diego County — Branches across the region have lessons for all ages and levels, with group, private and semi-private options. Prices vary depending on how many people are in the lesson and what branch you're at, but generally range from $25 to $70.
👶 My Baby Swims — These Infant Swimming Resource lessons in La Jolla focus on teaching young kids survival techniques with one-on-one instruction. They start as early as 6 months and focus on skills like roll-to-float and the swim-float-swim self-rescue sequence. Prices range from $175 to $275 for a week of five lessons.
🥇 Safe Swim Academy — This school has private, semi-private, and baby aquatics classes. They hold lessons across the county, or they'll come to your pool. A week of six lessons costs $420.
🌊 Big Blue Swim School — This school in Point Loma has weekly lessons, with a free trial lesson to start. You can also book a weeklong session of four lessons for $172.
🏖️ The Plunge at Fit — The beachfront pool in Mission Bay offers parent-tot classes for babies 6–36 months, beginner group lessons for ages 3–5, and prep classes for junior lifeguard entrance exams. Price is $99 per private lesson or about $62 for a group lesson, with discounts for members.
🤿 Alli Jo's Swim School — An East County-focused swim program that does two-week sessions of four lessons per week. They use heated backyard pools and work with babies up through advanced swimmers. Semi-private lessons are $445, private lessons are $890.
🏡 Sunsational Swim School — This school does private swim lessons at your home or neighbor's pool. Prices range depending on lesson time and how many you book, but on average it's about $600 for six 45-minute lessons.
