New Mission Bay playgrounds take shape as construction moves ahead

Toddlers and kiddos rejoice, shiny new playgrounds are popping up in Mission Bay.
The big picture: These playgrounds are part of construction across the bay, and have a separate funding source that allows them to skirt the city's budget woes, according to city officials.
Zoom in: One playground at Crown Point doesn't have a confirmed opening date yet, city spokesperson Tyler Becker told Axios.
- But the goal is to complete the project by the end of July.
- "Some grassy areas will need to remain closed for an additional three months to allow the new sod to acclimate to the environment," he said.
What else: Construction at a playground at South De Anza Cove is on hold because of the California Coastal Commission's summer construction moratorium, which is in effect from Memorial Day through Labor Day, he said.
- (That moratorium was waived for the Crown Point playground work.)
- The work on South De Anza Cove is supposed to finish in early 2027.
These projects are part of other construction work, including fixing the parking lot at Crown Point.
- And to fix the basketball courts, bathroom and parking lot at South De Anza Cove, Becker said.

- Somehow, they'd gone through the fence and had the playground all to themselves.
