San Diego's Nighttime Zoo ends after this summer

It's your last summer to check out the San Diego Zoo's Nighttime Zoo event.
The big picture: The zoo is ending Nighttime Zoo because it's starting a new event next summer, but spokesperson Meghan Breen told Axios there are no details to share yet, including whether they'll continue evening hours.
ZOOm in: The extended hours until 8pm give you a chance to see more animals in action without the crowds.
- There are also concerts and the famous "Jambo Dunia!" performance with music, dancers and puppets.
Pro tip: The zoo starts asking people to leave at 8pm but you can stay until 9pm, when they really kick you out.
💠Claire's thought bubble: I really love the zoo at night and went last week with a friend to check it out.
- It felt basically empty and many of the animals you don't normally see were very active.
- That included the new additions, the fossa pups, who were racing around and playing with each other.
Plus, we saw the panda moving! He was climbing up a hill. It was thrilling.
- And the elephants tussling with each other and the Andean bears pacing around while one tried (unsuccessfully) to climb in a hammock.
