It's summer, and that means free concerts throughout the region.
The big picture: Here are just a few of the places to sit outside and enjoy some music without the ticket prices and crowded arenas.
🎶 Twilight in the Park – Balboa Park. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, June 16–August 27, 6:30–7:30pm at the Spreckels Pavilion.
- Everything from the Navy Band to jazz to a Matchbox Twenty tribute band.
🎤 Coronado Promenade Summer Concert Series – Spreckels Park. Sundays through September 6, most shows begin at 6pm.
- Try swing dancing on June 28 or stop by for the ABBA tribute band on July 19.
🏖️ Point Loma Summer Concerts – Point Loma Park. Fridays, July 10–August 7, with a Jr. Stage at 5:30pm and Main Stage at 6:30pm.
- Lots of tributes on this stage, from The Beach Boys to the Eagles.
🌳 Pacific Beach Concerts on the Green – Kate Sessions Park. Sundays in July–August at Kate Sessions Park.
- These afternoon concerts start at 4pm and are very family-friendly.
🎸 Music on Main – El Cajon. Every Friday night June through August on the Prescott Promenade in downtown El Cajon.
- Kick things off this Friday rocking out with a Huey Lewis and the News tribute band.
🚚 Santee Summer Concert Series & Food Truck Rally. Thursdays, June 11–August 13 (except July 2).
- A chance to check out a variety of bands and local food trucks.
🚗 EastLake Summer Concerts – Chula Vista. These Sunday evening concerts run June 14–July 19, 5–7pm at Village Walk at EastLake.
- Along with the music, you can cruise a different car club every week.
🧺 Concerts at Old Trolley Barn Park – Mission Hills. Fridays in July at 6pm, bring a picnic for local bands, plus food trucks and stalls for artists and vendors.
🛝 First Fridays at Allied Gardens Park. Free concerts on the first Friday of the month at 6pm through September.
- It kicks off this Friday with the rockabilly and blues band Deke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers.
