How to weigh in as San Diego budget hearings begin

Now's your chance to be heard about San Diego's next fiscal budget.

Why it matters: The budget approval process is often contentious, and this year it could be even more so.

Groups are already protesting over proposed cuts, and the mayor has promised no new fees to make up for the $146 million deficit.

Zoom in: Monday kicks off a series of budget hearings, where city departments present their spending plans.

Monday at 6 pm there's a special public budget meeting, where anyone can come share their views.
The public can also comment during the daytime budget hearings.
You can also submit written public comment or take the mayor's survey.

What's next: On May 13, Mayor Todd Gloria will release his updated budget proposal.

Then the City Council will review it.
The council is supposed to vote on it in early June so it can go into effect July 1.
