Paddleboarding on the Carlsbad lagoon can be a calm, serene activity or a real workout if you're working against the wind.
Either way, it's a fun way to spend a sunny afternoon.
Zoom in: The 295-acre lagoon is part of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon that you see when driving on the I-5 between Carlsbad Village and the strawberry fields.
BYOB(oard) or rent one from California Watersports and cruise alongside kayakers, canoers, windsurfers, jet skiers and others with motorized water toys.
You can stop at a couple quiet beaches, including one off of Bayshore Drive that also has a walk-in launch ramp and walking trail.
🐟 Keep an eye out for the striped mullet thatjump several feet into the air and feel like they might splash right onto your board or kayak.
