Take a Hike: San Diego River Trail

Tucked right in the middle of Mission Valley is a walking path along the San Diego River.
The big picture: The river trail is the perfect route if you don't have time to get out of the city but still want scenic views, shade and a cool river breeze.
Zoom in: Start the path on Qualcomm Way and follow it west to Fashion Valley mall. Then cross the river and loop back.
- It's about 3 miles round trip, and you can extend it by walking up to Civita Park.
- It's a sheltered path the whole way, perfect for strolling, biking or running.
Pro tip: The main issue is where to park. The stores along Mission Center Road really don't want you to use their lots, with signs everywhere saying they'll tow your car.
- You can park at Civita or at the SDSU Mission Valley River Park.
- It just adds a little more distance.
