The big picture: From laid-back surf sounds to country to soul, there's a lot to choose from over the next two weeks.
👩🎤 Digable Planets at the Belly Up. The jazz-rap pioneers play Friday and Saturday, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Blowout Comb."
- They'll be joined by local artists Ric Scales and Blame One.
🏄 Tom Curren Band at the Belly Up. On Monday, surf legend Tom Curren brings laid-back vibes to a benefit for UC San Diego Health's Moores Cancer Center.
- Jack Johnson fans should check it out, Kevin Hellman, who runs events company SDS Events USA, told Axios.
🎤 The War and Treaty. On April 2, the husband-and-wife duo comes to the Epstein Amphitheater at UCSD.
- They bring a mix of country and soul with powerful vocals and have performed at the Grammys.
🍺 North Park Festival of Beers. This epic festival on April 4 in North Park will have live music and local brews.
- Catch a reunion set from San Diego indie rockers Louis XIV and a performance by rising bands The Film Company and DJ Mikey Beats, said Hellman, whose company puts on the festival.
🔥 St. Paul & The Broken Bones. Also on April 4, this high-energy Alabama-based soul-rock band comes to The Sound at Del Mar.
- They're known for electrifying live shows and standout vocals.
🎷 Terence Blanchard & Ravi Coltrane. Enjoy this standout jazz pairing on April 9 at Balboa Theatre.
- The duo will perform the music of Miles Davis and John Coltrane in a celebration of jazz's past and future.
🎶 San Diego Music Awards showcase — This free event at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido on April 10 will showcase some of the awards nominees.
- R&B and funk musician Rebecca Jade, country singer Kimmi Bitter and Americana performer Jesse Ray Smith will all take the stage supporting the Guitars for Schools program.
