Why it matters: Meyers Taylor, who was born in Oceanside, is now tied with Bonnie Blair for the most medals (6) by an American woman in Winter Olympics history.
At 41, she's also the oldest U.S. woman and the second black woman to win an individual Winter Olympics medal.
What she's saying: "I still can't believe it. I still can't even put into words what this means and having the gold medal," Meyers Taylor told USA Today. "It's still surreal, but it still is everything and it still is nothing because at the end of the day, in six days I've got school pickups and drop-offs in the middle of Texas."
Her U.S. teammate Kaillie Armbruster Humphries, also a mom with San Diego County ties, won bronze. It's her fifth Olympic medal overall.
What's next: The bobsled queens are both competing in the two-woman event, which starts Friday.
