As if the Super Bowl and the Olympics weren't enough, lots of things are happening in San Diego this weekend.
The big picture: From live theater and concerts to family-friendly performances and cultural events, there are options beyond major sporting events.
🎶 Beethoven × Beyoncé: Friday night, the San Diego Symphony puts a modern twist on classical music with a mashup of Beethoven and Beyoncé at Jacobs Music Center.
💃 Benise – 25 Years of Passion: Saturday at the Balboa Theatre, flamenco guitarist Benise celebrates his career.
🎭 "Barefoot in the Park": Running Friday through Sunday at Coronado Playhouse, this classic romantic comedy follows a newlywed couple navigating married life in New York City.
🎬 "Right in the Eye": Sunday at the Balboa Theatre, this live performance combines Georges Méliès' silent films with an original musical score played onstage.
🎭 "Hedda Gabler" at The Old Globe: Katie Holmes stars in this drama, with performances beginning Saturday.
🏃 The Kook Run: Runners and walkers can do a 5K or 10K with scenic ocean views Sunday morning in Encinitas. There's also a costume contest, kids' run and post-race festivities.
🎻 Peter and the Wolf: The San Diego Symphony presents on Saturday afternoon this kid-friendly concert that introduces young audiences to orchestral instruments through storytelling.
