Café Madeleine brings Paris café culture downtown

💭 Kate's thought bubble: I recently visited the North Park location, and it reminded me why the sidewalk cafés were a highlight of my trip to Paris last summer.

Best bites: The sweet and indulgent Croissant French Toast comes topped with fresh berries, whipped cream and granola, or Nutella and bananas. Plates were scraped clean.

• The breakfast croissant sandwich with egg, bacon, tomato and arugula was delightful but on the smaller side.

Sip on an iced lavender mint latte and fresh squeezed grapefruit or orange juice.

The intrigue: In Barrio Logan, Madeleine serves a fusion of Latin and French-inspired dishes, like a raja crepe with poblano peppers, elote and queso fresco.
